Floor Tiler in Ealing & West London

A tiled floor is only as good as what's underneath it. We prepare, level and tile floors so they stay flat, solid and crack-free.

What we do

Floors that stay flat and solid

Floors fail when the base moves. Before tiling we check for flex, level uneven floors and use the correct boards or membranes for timber and concrete subfloors.

London's period homes often have hallways and front paths crying out for Victorian-style patterned tiles. We set these out carefully so the pattern runs true down the length of the hall, with borders where they suit.

The real Victorian-style porch and front path photo in our gallery shows patterned tiles with a defined border. For outdoor paths and porches, see our Outdoor & Patio Tiling service for preparation and drainage details.

We also tile fireplace hearths and can fit electric underfloor heating under bathroom and kitchen floors.

Floors are laid by Robert Rajz, an NVQ Level 3 qualified tiler with 18 years' experience who holds a Gold CSCS card and is fully insured. A floor is hard to put right once it's down, so he'd rather be the tiler you're glad you paid for than the lowest quote you regret.

Process

How a floor tiling job runs

  1. 01

Movement check: timber floors are checked for flex and loose boards, and concrete floors for dips, cracks and damp.

  2. 02

Boards or membranes: the correct boards or membranes are chosen for the timber or concrete subfloor.

  3. 03

Levelling: uneven floors are levelled so tiles sit flat and don't rock or lip.

  4. 04

Setting out: the layout starts from the main doorway, so patterned hallway tiles and borders run true down the room.

  5. 05

Tiling: every tile is fully bedded, with electric underfloor heating fitted beneath where it's part of the job.

  6. 06

Finishing: joints are grouted and thresholds finished neatly where the floor meets the next room.

A new floor often links to other jobs: a bathroom or kitchen refit, large-format porcelain through an open-plan space, or an outdoor path that carries on from the hall.

FAQ

Floor Tiling: questions

Can you tile over floorboards? +

Not straight onto boards that flex. Loose boards are fixed and the floor is usually overboarded with the correct boards or fitted with a membrane before tiling, so the tiles stay flat and don't crack.

Do you level floors before tiling? +

Yes. Uneven floors are levelled first, because tiles laid over dips and high spots rock, lip or crack.

Do you tile Victorian-style hallways? +

Yes. Victorian and patterned hallway tiles are set out carefully so the pattern runs true down the length of the hall, with borders where they suit.

Can you fit underfloor heating under a tiled floor? +

Yes, we can fit electric underfloor heating under bathroom and kitchen floors. The electrical connection and testing are done by a qualified electrician.
