What we do

Patios and paths built for the weather

A patio has to cope with rain, temperature changes and regular foot traffic. Before laying tiles, Robert checks the existing surface and plans a sound, stable base. Outdoor porcelain or natural stone is selected for the location, with frost-resistant tiles and adhesives suitable for external use rather than indoor products used outside.

Falls are planned so rainwater drains away instead of pooling on the tiled surface or running towards the building. Thresholds, adjoining paths and drainage points all affect the layout. A proper bed of adhesive, suitable joints and careful finishing matter just as much outdoors as they do in a bathroom.

Front porches and Victorian-style front paths call for careful setting out, particularly when a border follows a narrow entrance. The real patterned porch photo shown here is part of Robert's work gallery. We also tile straightforward paths and larger patios in porcelain and natural stone, without assuming one specification suits every garden.

Send photos of the area and your postcode when requesting a quote. Robert will look at access, the existing base, drainage and your chosen tiles before confirming the preparation and work required.

Outdoor work is carried out by Robert Rajz, an NVQ Level 3 qualified tiler with 18 years' experience, a Gold CSCS card holder and fully insured. Outside, the base and the drainage decide how long a patio lasts, and he'd rather be the tiler you're glad you paid for than the lowest quote you regret.
