Large Format & Porcelain Tiler in London

Large-format porcelain looks stunning — and shows every flaw in the wall or floor behind it. That's why prep and levelling come first.

What we do

Flat surfaces first, large tiles second

Big tiles need flat surfaces. We check walls and floors with a straight edge, correct them where needed, and fully bed every tile to avoid hollow spots.

We use tile levelling systems to keep edges flush across large slabs, giving that seamless, high-end look with minimal lip between tiles.

We also work with natural stone, including marble, travertine and slate, sealing it correctly so it keeps its finish.

Large-format work is carried out by Robert Rajz, an NVQ Level 3 qualified tiler with 18 years' experience, Gold CSCS card holder and fully insured. Big slabs leave nowhere to hide a poor base, so he'd rather be the tiler you're glad you paid for than the lowest quote you regret.

Large format tiles on walls and floors

Large porcelain slabs suit bathrooms, kitchens and open-plan floors, where fewer joints give a calmer finish. On walls, the wall has to carry the weight of the tiles, so boards and fixings are chosen to suit, within the manufacturer's limits. On floors, long tiles and slabs are set out so the cuts at doorways and walls are balanced, and movement joints are planned across larger areas. Large tiles are heavy and can bow slightly along their length, which is why full bedding and a levelling system matter more than with standard tiles.

Process

How a large-format tiling job runs

  1. 01

Straight-edge check: walls and floors are checked with a straight edge to find bows, dips and high spots.

  2. 02

Correcting the surface: uneven areas are corrected so the wall or floor is flat enough for the tile size.

  3. 03

Setting out: the layout is planned so large tiles avoid thin slivers at walls, edges and doorways.

  4. 04

Full bedding: every tile is fully bedded to avoid hollow spots behind the slab.

  5. 05

Levelling system: clips and wedges keep edges flush across large slabs while the adhesive sets.

  6. 06

Tight joints: grout lines are kept minimal and even for a seamless finish, with natural stone sealed correctly.

FAQ

Large-Format & Porcelain: questions

Do large tiles need a flat wall or floor? +

Yes. Big tiles need flat surfaces, so walls and floors are checked with a straight edge and corrected where needed before tiling.

What does a tile levelling system do? +

Clips and wedges fitted between tiles as they're laid keep the edges flush, so there's minimal lip between large slabs.

Do you work with natural stone as well as porcelain? +

Yes. We work with natural stone, including marble, travertine and slate, sealing it correctly so it keeps its finish.

Can you fit quartz tiles? +

Yes. Quartz tiles get the same attention to flat surfaces and full bedding as large porcelain slabs.
